Tenth graders learn a special Arabic pronunciation rule: the definite article ال (“the”). With sun letters (الحروف الشمسية) the ل assimilates — الشمس is said “ash-shams.” With moon letters (الحروف القمرية) the ل is clear — القمر is “al-qamar.” They sort words by which rule applies.
Students will be able to…
Ash-shams or al-qamar — when does the “l” in ال disappear?
Project this and sort each word into Sun letter (ل assimilates) or Moon letter (ل is clear).
Tap any phase to open the teacher moves and student actions.
