Hindi Grammatical Gender

Tenth graders learn a core feature of Hindi: every noun has a gender (लिंग) — पुल्लिंग (masculine) or स्त्रीलिंग (feminine). A common clue: many masculine nouns end in -आ (लड़का), many feminine in -ई (लड़की). Gender changes the adjectives and verbs, so they sort nouns by it.
