Tenth graders meet a feature that shapes all of Polish grammar — grammatical gender (rodzaj). Every Polish noun is masculine, feminine, or neuter. A handy clue: nouns ending in a consonant are usually masculine (kot, dom), and nouns ending in -a are usually feminine (kobieta, książka). They sort nouns by gender.
