Tenth graders meet the sound rule that shapes all of Turkish — vowel harmony (ses uyumu). Suffix vowels change to match the word. The plural is -lar after back vowels (a, ı, o, u) and -ler after front vowels (e, i, ö, ü): masa → masalar, but ev → evler. They sort nouns by which plural they take.
