Swahili History

Twelfth graders explore key eras of Swahili history (historia) — the miji ya pwani (Kilwa, Zanzibar, Mombasa coast city-states), the biashara ya Bahari Hindi (Indian Ocean trade that shaped the language), ukoloni (Portuguese, then German & British rule), uhuru (1960s independence), and Kiswahili leo (today a unifying language of 100M+ and an African Union working language).
