How Data Travels

Eighth graders trace how a message crosses the internet. It is split into packets, each addressed with IP, routed by routers, and reassembled at a server or device — all following shared protocols. They explore each piece, then map a message’s journey.

QUESTION 1
What is a packet?
A small piece of a message that travels on its own.
QUESTION 2
What does a router do?
Forwards packets toward their destination.
QUESTION 3
What is a protocol?
Agreed rules that let devices communicate.

Reflect: how data travels.
